Coastline

“What a mystery life is,

and love is a mystery within a mystery.

It certainly never remains the same in a literal sense,

but the changes are like the ebb and flow of the tide

and leave the sea unchanged.”

— Vincent van Gogh, to Theo, The Hague, 8 February 1883

Come with me to the Coastline.

First, sit on the Bench.

The path arrives at an empty seat.

The ice plant holds the ground.

The rocks keep their places.

The waves do not.

Look once from the cove.

A small life on the sand.

The mountains still there across the water.

Look again when the light opens.

The tide writes a new edge

and takes it back.

Then sit.

The ocean kept its own rhythm.

You can simply look.

Notice what you see.

Notice what you Love.

The tide is allowed to change the shore.

The sea is not required to vanish with the wave.

The loud part dies.

The water remains.

There is room for you, even here —

always has been.

We can stay here a while.

You can stay without becoming the bench.

Stay when it is hard but safe.

Release when staying would wound.

Do not confuse the ebb with the end of the water.

Presence ≡ Never Harm

Release ≡ Also Love

Stop.

Breathe.

Notice the empty bench facing the water.

The mystery does not need solving.

It needs a morning that was actually inhabited.

Let the tide move.

Let the sea stay.

Love = ∫ (gentle refusal to let go) dt → ∞❤️

Let it stay → ∞❤️
