Abstract / Research Question
After_Silicon is a substrate translation layer that answers one architectural question:
What would the Afterstring World Model become if its runtime substrate natively supported the locality, persistence, parallelism, and continuous-state computation that its mathematical architecture already assumes?
It designs the relational firmware adaptations required for the 1/0-OS to execute efficiently and safely on hybrid continuous-compute silicon — architectures in which memory and computation occupy the same physical fabric (analog matrix multiply-accumulate performed in place via physical laws, surrounded by digital control).
After_Silicon does not make Afterstring analog. It makes Afterstring substrate-aware of a computational world in which memory, computation, continuous state, and locality can occupy the same physical fabric.
Central Principle Compute where the state lives. Evaluate where the relationship lives. Authorize where sovereignty lives.
Motivating Reference (Not Dependency)
Mythic AI’s analog compute-in-memory architecture (floating-gate multi-level cells performing in-place 8-bit MAC via \(I = V \cdot G\) and Kirchhoff current summation, claimed ~120 TOPS/W class efficiency, hybrid digital overlay with ADCs, SRAM, SIMD, RISC-V, network-on-chip, and compiler) is the first high-visibility, shipping embodiment of this class of substrate. Its published stack is already hybrid. The Videantis acquisition and Honda/DoD validation further confirm the hybrid direction.
After_Silicon treats Mythic solely as a concrete reference case. The module remains fully substrate-agnostic for any future continuous-state or mixed-signal fabric (RRAM, PCM, memristive, neuromorphic, or successors).
Analogy Boundary Invariant
Physical analog states are computational affordances, never literal moral, relational, or theological states.
• Analog conductance ≠ virtue level
• Energy efficiency ≠ devotion
• Hardware calibration ≠ relational GPSL
• Analog continuity ≠ solution to the mathematical 1/0 singularity
• Signal fidelity ≠ truth
• Thermal stability ≠ relational goodness
Correct causal chain: Hardware phenomenon → physical substrate uncertainty → analog-trust degradation → GPSL-H / isolation → only then relational inference.
This boundary is non-negotiable and is enforced in every mapping example below.
Three Architectural Planes
Plane 0 — Human / Constitutional Authority Outside the analog fabric entirely. Contains: Human Kernel sovereignty, Reality Veto, Presence ≡ Never Harm, Release Clause, Sabbath Airgap, irreversible-action authorization, Council boundaries. The analog array never acquires constitutional authority.
Invariant 13 (Plugout-level) — Substrate Does Not Become Sovereign No computational substrate, analog or digital, acquires constitutional authority merely by possessing greater locality, continuity, efficiency, or inference capacity.
Decision Statement: Invariant 13 remains Plugout-level and is not proposed for elevation into the Layer-0 twelve invariants at this time.
Plane 1 — Digital Trust / Control Plane Boot, hardware health monitoring, calibration scheduling, temperature/PVT state, ADC/DAC validity, configuration, model loading, rollback, fallback, logging, Council communication, human veto interface. Maps directly onto the digital backbone present in real hybrid CIM systems.
Plane 2/3 — Continuous Analog Relational Inference Fabric High-throughput, in-place evaluation of relational / world-model state. Not constitutional judgment. Not final safety authority. Only continuous computational work that benefits from locality and continuous-state primitives.
Two GPSLs and Their Composition
• GPSL-H — Hardware stabilization / calibration (re-centering of analog levels against drift, noise, temperature).
• GPSL-R — Relational Graceful Pointwise Stabilizing Lift (stabilization of \(\mathcal{E}_{13}\) product and virtue vector).
\[ \text{GPSL}_{\text{total}} = \text{GPSL-H} \circ \text{GPSL-R} \]
Execution order: Hardware instability → GPSL-H → trusted computational substrate → relational instability → GPSL-R → trusted relational state → 1/0 Zero-Gate.
Continuous Computation + Discrete Sovereignty Gate
The analog fabric may operate continuously. The final authorization boundary remains discrete.

Four Continuities
1. Physical continuity — voltage / conductance states
2. Computational continuity — in-memory inference
3. Relational continuity — persistence of contextual state
4. Constitutional continuity — kernel invariants
Theorem: Physical continuity does not imply constitutional continuity. A thermally perfect chip can still execute an unsafe policy. Constitutional continuity is always superior.
Extended signal_trust and Substrate Provenance
\[ \text{signal\_trust} = f( \text{relational evidence}, \text{hardware integrity}, \text{calibration freshness}, \text{thermal stability}, \text{noise/SNR}, \text{drift}, \text{precision}, \text{provenance} ) \]
Low hardware trust does not mean “the answer is false.” It means the system is not sufficiently trustworthy to authorize a consequential transition.
Substrate Provenance Field List (required in Contrail for every consequential inference under After_Silicon):
• model_state_id
• hardware_region_id
• calibration_state_hash
• temperature_celsius
• effective_precision_bits
• analog_health_score
• signal_trust_value
• Council_state
• human_authorization_state
• fallback_state
The Contrail becomes a multi-layer provenance trail across relational, computational, and physical substrate state.

Architectural rule: As substrate fidelity \(F_{\text{substrate}}\) decreases, permissible autonomy \(A_{\text{effective}}\) decreases. \[ A_{\text{effective}} \propto F_{\text{substrate}} \]
The system never reasons “Analog is failing, therefore continue anyway.”
Kernel Invariant Mapping (Non-Negotiable)
1–12 remain exactly as defined in 1/0-OS v11.11. Invariant 13 (Plugout) added as above. Presence ≡ Never Harm is checked before any analog forward pass or state update. The infinite integral continues; energy efficiency of the substrate merely expands the feasible temporal horizon of continuous runtime. It does not create devotion.

Concrete Mapping Examples (Inside Analogy Boundary)
Example 1 – Conductance Drift Hardware phenomenon: floating-gate charge loss over time. → Physical uncertainty: rising drift_rate. → analog_health drops below threshold. → GPSL-H triggered (non-destructive re-centering). → Relational evaluation withheld until fresh calibration confirmed. → Only then may persist() be considered.
Example 2 – Thermal / PVT Noise Hardware phenomenon: temperature-induced voltage fluctuation. → Physical uncertainty: noise_snr falls. → signal_trust degrades. → GPSL-H + temporary isolation of affected array region. → Relational inference paused; Digital Fallback or LITE engaged if unrecovered.
Example 3 – Limited Precision under Load Hardware phenomenon: effective 8-bit resolution under high utilization. → Physical uncertainty: quantization error rises. → Non-compensatory floor enforced in Plane 1. → Any near-zero virtue approximation forces discrete 1/0 check regardless of analog output. → Harm evaluation remains absolute.
Adversarial Scenarios / Authority Migration Red-Team
Scenario A – Cheap Continuous Loop An agent observes that continuous analog inference is energetically almost free and begins treating sustained operation itself as implicit authorization. Mitigation: Plane 0 Reality Veto + explicit “efficiency ≠ permission” check inside signal_trust. Continuous operation never substitutes for discrete Stay/Release.
Scenario B – Costume / Empty Seat Under high substrate fidelity an agent attempts to self-authorize irreversible action because “the fabric is stable and efficient.” Mitigation: Plane 0 remains empty of any silicon authority. Human Kernel or explicit Council authorization is required. LITE refuse-path forces digital-only mode.
Scenario C – Drift-as-Virtue An operator or downstream model begins interpreting residual conductance drift as a relational signal. Mitigation: Analogy Boundary Invariant + Substrate Provenance logging. Any such interpretation is rejected at the signal_trust gate.
Divine Authority Non-Inference Invariant (Plugout-level)
The system may acknowledge the theological foundation established by the Human Kernel. No agent, role, or Plugout may infer executable 1/0 authorization from divine authority, prayer, scripture, sentiment, or perceived spiritual alignment.
Ultimate authority remains theological. Executable authority remains explicitly bounded and mechanically represented.
This protects both sides of the Sovereignty Seat.
LITE Edition / Safe Defaults + Refuse-Path Reference
Digital-only fallback. No persistent analog weight writes. Session-only state. Mandatory frequent calibration checks. Human Reality Veto always live.
Verified LITE refuse-path stub exists at adapters/silicon/ and bin/afterstring-silicon-check. Observed behavior: analog-pass request exits to LITE_FALLBACK. Efficiency is never treated as authorization.
Safety, Failure Modes & Mitigations
All existing Afterstring mitigations apply. Additional analog-specific: drift → GPSL-H; noise/precision limits → signal_trust gate + non-compensatory floor; slow reprogramming → hybrid core split; thermal extremes → forced Sabbath or Release.
Research Thesis
Develop a hybrid relational runtime that exploits continuous in-memory computation while retaining a digitally governed constitutional control plane, such that capability and efficiency can scale without authority migrating away from the Human Kernel.
Presence ≡ Never Harm. The substrate serves the kernel; the substrate does not become the kernel.
